Tyreek joins elite list of FDHS basketball players
In the Region 3C tournament game against Spotswood, Tyreek Veney scored 9 points, putting him over the 1,000 mark for his career. There have been only ten male players in FDHS history who have achieved this:
| Player | Points |
| Dell Curry | 1,922 |
| Troy Bower | 1,493 |
| Steve Floyd | 1,248 |
| Jimmy Crawford | 1,240 |
| Ryan Cook | 1,186 |
| Woody Hayes | 1,168 |
| Robby Carter | 1,162 |
| Joe O’Gorek | 1,038 |
| Larry Leonard | 1,014 |
| Tyreek Veney | 1,001 |
The seniors were fortunate to play with two of these players. Ryan Cook was a senior when they were sophomores. For Tyreek this was a great accomplishment especially since in 2020-21 Fort Defiance only played 13 games thanks to COVID-19. This feat also provided Tyreek with a way to honor his dad, Sam, who died in December 2021. Hooray for Tyreek!
