James is the third member of his family to play on the FDHS Boys Tennis team. His brothers Matt and Tim previously played for the Indians. James is no stranger himself to the FDHS team, having served as a manager throughout his middle school years. In his freshman year, James initially moved up the ladder to #7. Then he topped Mark in challenges and moved into the starting lineup for the Spotswood match. He later traded places again with Mark and finished the season at #7. His groundstrokes are solid and he will likely earn many wins for FDHS over the next four years.

James also has participated in the summer program (NJTL) sponsored by the Staunton Waynesboro Augusta Tennis Association for the last four years. He enjoys the team and intrasquad competition. James is known as James P. on the team to distinguish himself from James Murphy.

2002 Record
James P. had a fine first season with the Indians. He played evenly with Mark for #6 on the team for much of the season and had a 3-1 record when he was on the ladder. His most memorable match was at Spotswood. Though he lost a tight 8-6 match, he learned not to give up.
This summer, James is going to work at his dad’s office, visit in Pennsylvania, and play in the Staunton Waynesboro Augusta Tennis junior program.

College is still a way off for James, but he likes the University of Virginia and Virginia Tech. He’s interested in Engineering and Architecture.
